DUI Fines
DUI FINES CAN COST YOU THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!
All 50 states in the U.S. have DUI laws, and each state forbids any driver from driving a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of .08% or above. Although all states have similar laws regarding drunk driving, the punishments and fines can vary even from Los Angeles County to Orange County. Regardless of where you live, if you are convicted of driving while under the influence of alcohol in California, you can expect to pay significant fees and fines, and possibly face jail time.
DUI fines can really add up. Not only are there court costs and DUI lawyer fees, but your insurance premiums will be drastically affected as well. A DUI charge often requires you to file a California DMV form "SR22" proof of insurance filing, which can require even more money out of your pocket for years to come. And if your driver license is suspended, you will not be allowed to drive and will need to arrange for alternate transportation. And getting caught driving on a suspended driver license can result in vehicle impounds, arrest and even jail. If you do not fight this DUI, you will have to figure out bus schedules or arrange for someone else to get you to work or the grocery store. The last thing you want to do is lose your job because you do not have transportation to and from work!
In California, you can expect to pay anywhere between $350 - $2000 in court fines and fees for a first time DUI offense. Los Angeles DUI fines (and fines throughout California) for second or third drunk driving offenses can increase substantially, and depending on if the charge is a misdemeanor or felony dui charge, an offender can end up paying as much as $5000 in fines. Drivers under the legal age of 21 who are charged with and convicted of driving while under the influence face similar fines and penalties. And because of California's zero tolerance policy, drivers under the age of 21 can have their licensed suspended for one year. And they can be charged with a DUI if they have a blood alcohol level of .01% or above. Any arrest for DUI. Be it a first, second or third DUI arrest can put a huge financial burden on you and your family.
